Additional Guitar Sounds of James Burton Information

Import reissue of 1971 album for artist revered by rock & roll fans for his lead guitar work with Ricky Nelson & Elvis Presley. Considered one of the most influential country players in history. His 'chicken pickin' Telecaster technique added sting to many of Merle Haggard's hits of the 1960s, as well as Emmylou Harris's early albums.

What Customers Say About Guitar Sounds of James Burton:

Rec'd this disc yesterday, and it put a smile on my face to hear James rip into a great instrumental version of Polk-Salad Annie. If you always enjoyed James' work with The King in the 70s, but wished he would sometimes turn up the guitar and play a few more bars, then this album will not disappoint. He covers a wide range of tunes in his signature style, and with the TCB band backing him up. Does it get any better than this.

I would love to see him do another solo album, although the man keeps very busy and is in demand I'm sure. I also read the song list and found favorites such as Polk Salad Annie & Mystery Train, Fools Rush In & Johnny B Goode. I have been a fan of his from his days with Rick Nelson and Elvis and the TCB band. I knew Ron back in the early 80's right before he joined Neil Diamonds band.

I chose this CD because I was looking for something more old school Rock N' Roll as opposed to country. I recently received " The Guitar Sounds of James Burton" and have been enjoying it very much. His playing style here is different from the early days, but amazing nonetheless. Lang, Bruce Springsteen, and others. Coincedentally, these are my favorite songs on the album as well, although there were a couple of suprises.

A great treat is to go get Roy Orbisons "Black & White Nights" music video and see him work with Roy & former TCB band member drummer Ron Tutt. These legendary performers all coming together was a once in a lifetime thing. I went looking to see if he had anything of his own, and was happy to discover that this album was available now on CD. He was working with Gospel & Contemporary Christian groups, and I was a singer in a recording session that he co-produced with former Righteous Brothers early producer John Wimber(Johnny Wimber). I always felt that when he played with Rick Nelson that he had that Carl Perkins type sound which I love, with his own spin on it.

No one plays like that anymore these days. Also on this video was "Back-up" singers Bonnie Raitt & I believe K.D. I would say get this CD especially for the 1st 9 or 10 songs.

The Guitar Sounds of James Burton My ONLY disappointment with this CD is as great a guitarist as James was when he recorded this (1970) he's even better now. It's still very much worth owning at twice the price.

He had no preparation time. He is an excellent guitarist, a legend, but this release doesn't capture his abilities as other recordings have. This album is VERY DATED. If you are an all-out Burton fan then maybe this belongs in your collection. The story is that Elvis Presley didn't show up for a recording session. However, they had the players and the session time already booked, so they had Burton make this album instead. (But only as a curiosity). Otherwise, keep lookin.

Im sorry James after being a hugh fan from Rick Nelson days I found this album a disappointment not only was the recording a little flat in its overall sound but the playing very un uninspireing, almost like James was not playing from the heart a bit like when some musio,s back artist,s reading charts that they are not familiar with it also has that 70,s plastickey sound ,,so sorry James not your best.
